5 OKC Date Night ideas

Here are five ideas for date nights in Oklahoma City that are perfect for cookin’ up some romance in the city. Whether you’re meeting up for a tinder date or trying to find some creative ideas for your relationship, there’s a ton of things to do in Oklahoma City. While you can always go to a Thunder game or head to a bar, we wanted to propose five other ideas for different experiences.

Cozy bookstore vibes

What’s more romantic than listening to music in a bookstore? Commonplace Books is a great place to go for a cozy date night. You can make a reservation for dinner at the Kitchen at Commonplace and spend the rest of the night browsing through books and listening to the singer-songwriters who often perform at Commonplace. There’s also the occasional poetry reading. Oh, and there’s dogs there, and sometimes there’s wine. Commonplace Books is the place to go for a comfy little date night in Midtown.

Jazz show in the Plaza

The Plaza District on 16th st. is a great place to go for a night out on the town with live music and good food. Saints Sessions is a jazz show at Saints Pub in the Plaza District every Thursday night 8-10 p.m., and it’s perfect for a night with a significant other or even a night out with friends. You can make a whole night of it – make art at Paint n’ Cheers, get some ice cream from Roxy’s, and head to Saints for some jazz, drinks, and barbeque from Krow’s Nest Catering. Saints Pub in the Plaza is a local hang that’s perfect for a casual night out in the Plaza, and…hey jazz is pretty romantic, right? Also, if you’re into jazz, but you’re looking for a more classy experience, you can head down to a new jazz experience at the Skirvin Hotel called the Skirvin Jazz Club!

Night on film row

The Jones Assembly is an ideal mix between classy and casual, an the perfect place to take a significant other and catch some live music and also have a chance to slip away for a conversation. You can check out the Jones Assembly website to purchase tickets and view upcoming shows. The Jones Assembly has three main features – bar, restaurant, and music venue. And, honestly, any or all of those are pretty great options. After the show, you can have a sort of “choose your own adventure” date night on film row. You could head over to Flashback Retro Pub to boogie and play arcade games, catch some live music or grab at drink at Sanctuary Barsillica, or you can explore the 24-hour modern art museum and hotel, 21c. If you’re looking for a more upscale experience, but you still want to have fun, film row has some great opportunities, and the Jones is honestly one of the coolest buildings in OKC.

Can’t go wrong with some golf

Topgolf is one of the top date night spots in OKC. With golfing, music, food, and drinks, it’s a ton of fun. You don’t have to be an expert at golfing – it’s just a casual fun night, perfect for an exciting first date or even a new idea for a couple. If you’re looking for something to do after Topgolf, head to Sidecar Barley and Wine right across the street for drinks and a dang good cheese platter. Sidecar has live music like the Flannels and local musician Shane Henry and a large outdoor patio with a fire pit that’s great for a romantic night out. there are is great for people who are looking for something a simple dinner, and Topgolf can definitely add a fun-loving element to the night, while Sidecar ups the classiness and intimacy after an exciting night.

Tourist in your own town

Bricktown is one of the hippest districts in OKC, and it’s perfect for a more urban vibe. Oklahoma was listed among Time Magazine’s best travel destinations for 2018, with Bricktown listed among the top attractions. So if you’re from out of town, this is a great place to go, but even if you’re local, it’s always good to feel like a tourist in your own city. You can play games at Brickopolis, catch a movie at Harkins, have dinner at the Melting Pot, grab a coffee and dessert at All About Cha, and check out the quirky American Banjo Museum. As far as music goes, there’s a lot of options including the ACM@UCO performance lab, Michael Murphy’s Dueling Piano Bar and Jazmo’z Bourbon St. Cafe. At Michael Murphys, there are three pianists who play requested songs, and Jazmo’z has live music and Cajun food – what’s not to like? Bricktown has a little bit of everything for couples who might want the excitement of Brickopolis or the intimacy or a movie date. Oh, and of course supporting live music at Michael Murphy’s, Jazmo’z, or the ACM@UCO Performance lab is always a great idea.
