Y’all remember when Factory Obscura had that incredible summer solstice celebration? Well VICE did a story about it! And that’s pretty freakin’ awesome.
Factory Obscura is an interactive art experience, and it will really blow your mind. This team is changing what it means to be a group of artists in the middle of the country. This new short documentary reveals why it’s so important to support creative art experiences in cities like OKC. We’re really excited to see the team behind the scenes getting the recognition they deserve.
The VICE short focused on a specific Factory Obscura celebration – “March of the Sun King” – a funky and psychedelic celebration of the season, told through the music of the Beatles. This also fell at the same time as Pride, and Factory Obscura chose to highlight the importance of self-expression and lifting up voices through art.
Factory Obscura joined with the local bands for live performances including The So Help Mes So Help Mes, DEERPEOPLE, The Fervent Route, Bad Jokes, Lincka, and LTZ and hosted several events like roller skating and poetry.
Factory Obscura has touched the lives of many in OKC. Many consider it a transformative experience. It does something to you – just being in the presence of art like that.
“As we prepare to open Mix-Tape, our first permanent experience, we’re proud to be on the same national stage with friends like Meow Wolf and Atlas Obscura.” Everywhere we go, people can’t believe that cool things like immersive art are happening right here in Oklahoma…the VICE documentary is great coverage for our collective and for the state.”
Laurent Massenat, Factory Obscura co-founder
“Factory Obscura is a collective of artists and volunteers in Oklahoma City who embrace the oddity of the city in their wild, immersive installations. The goal is never prescriptive—rather, everyone builds a vision together and explore the unexpected as a part of the process. Factory Obscura is breathing new life into the art scene in OKC by rejecting conformity and building a new, sustainable model for creative business.”
