From Art of Rap to Heart of Hip-Hop, the Hubbly Bubbly is the regular hang for all the big names in hip-hop, and the proving grounds for MCs honing their craft and earning respect.
Art of Rap
Hubbly features some great event’s for both aspiring musicians and fans alike. Before Heart of Hip-hop, there’s the Art of Rap. Art of Rap is where newer artists can step up in front of the community to show what they’re made of. Art of Rap is an entertaining, three-round talent contest with a panel of judges and clear criteria for round-to-round survival.
Round 1 – All ten contestants bring an original track for the DJ to spin. They spit a verse and from square one the goal is to get the crowd hype. Immediately after each performer goes, each judge stands, offers some feedback, and announces a score from 1-10. After each contestant goes, the scores are tallied, and the host announces who survived the initial cut.
Round 2 – Round 2 is all about freestyle and flow. The beat is DJ’s choice, and the artist has to react in real time. Some flourish while others crash and burn and that’s what makes it exciting. Judges stand and give feedback. Cuts are made, and the room waits with baited breath for the acapella showdown.
Round 3 – The final round is spoken word poetry. Lush lyrics and free-form rhythm fill the quiet room as the final artists lay it all on the line as they vie for victory.
What happens if they win? $50 cash prize, bragging rights, but most importantly…
The winner earns a coveted spot in the lineup for Heart of Hip-hop.
Heart of Hip-Hop
Heart of Hip-Hop is a monthly showcase of Oklahoma’s hottest artists. It was pioneered by Chief Pease, Addlib, Fresh, Joey Sativa, Jim Conway, and Original Flow. Just a dependably dope lineup of established artists along with a special feature from the winner of the previous Art of Rap.
