Steph Simon, a Tulsa-based Hip-hop Artist Leading A City to the Promised Land

This article was written by Ryan Anderson with Tulsa Lines. Special thanks to Desiree Yearby for connecting us and putting Steph Simon’s show together at Saints in the Plaza District.

What does it mean to be from Black Wallstreet? This is a question hip-hop artist Steph Simon set out to answer with the August release of his album BOBWS (short for “Born on Black Wallstreet). The album is Steph Simon’s follow up to his critically acclaimed “Visions From the Tisdale”. Which took its listeners on a journey through the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma and renewed the pride of a city that was in desperate need of one. Listening to both “Visions From the Tisdale” and “BOBWS” it’s clear that Steph Simon knows Tulsa. But what’s unclear is where the next phase in his career will lead him. But maybe it is clear to him as he explains in his track “The Promised Land”.

“Craps in a bucket, but my bucket pushing me out.”

The bucket that Steph is talking about is the collective group called World Culture Music. A group made up of artists Keeng Cut, Dial Tone, Keezy Kuts, Verse, Pade, Bezel 365, and of course Steph Simon. It’s this group that recognizes the importance of Steph Simon and has at times sacrificed their time and effort for the greater good. Greater good being Steph Simon. Who has been recognized as having the potential to push Tulsa into the national spotlight.

From the very beginning of his career Steph Simon has been a DIY artist. From booking his own shows, to creating his own movie, to having his own hip-hop music festival Steph Simon, has never waited on a major label backing to make major moves. Moves like these have helped Steph Simon trust in his ability, something he is banking on with the sale of his album BOBWS. In this new streaming world, Steph Simon has chosen to not upload his album to any major streaming sites. The only way you can buy this album is on his site “https://www.stephxsimon.com”.

They say the hardest roads are the ones that are unpaved, but in actuality, the hardest roads are the ones that have never reached their destination. Roads that are covered with potholes of artist’s dreams and aspirations. The same road that Steph Simon is repairing on his way to “The Promised Land”.

Simon will be performing his BOBWS album live at the Saints Pub on September 17th. The show will feature Dial Tone – who has recently released an album called “Tones Beach” – and Keeng Cut and his alter ego Flavio Cútatore, whose song “Cuttin Up” has become the summertime jam. You will not want to miss this show.

Doors will open for the at 8:30 p.m. at Saints Pub, and the show starts at 9:00. This will be a free event, and the merchandise will be available for sale.
