New project “stepmom” plans to release debut single

Lindsey Cox has a new project called stepmom and is currently working on releasing a single by July!

With dreamy three part harmonies, ambient cello and synth contrasted with angsty guitar riffs and powerful lead vocals, stepmom represents the conflicted feelings of giving into the systems that control our lives while still trying to find meaning and purpose in the world.

Not only will this reflect in the music, but Cox plans to incorporate these themes into the live performances.

“There are certain evils that we give into for the sake of inclusion,” Cox said. “I plan on expanding upon this theme through my live show as well as through photography, stop motion, stage props/design and a short video series.”

stepmom features Lindsey Cox (lead vocals and guitar), Danielle Szabo (keys, violin, vocals), (Cheyenne Rain – Cello, vocals), and Josh Carpenter (drums).

“stepmom is a project I’ve been working on for a long time, and I’m extremely excited to put this music out into the world,” Cox said. “When I brought the project to Danielle, Cheyenne and Josh, they took it to an entirely new level.”

Cox is also the lead singer of the indie rock/alternative band The So Help Me’s, who just returned from a seven month hiatus and had a groundbreaking performance with Factory Obscura.

stepmom’s single is going to be contemplative, universal, and existential. Cox said she hopes to touch on multiple concepts with the songwriting.

“While the lyrics are very personal and reflective, the imagery that surrounds the band will comment on societal standards and systems that we are constantly bombarded with,” Cox said. “For example, social media is a toxic and time wasting cesspool of instant gratification and yet I am depending on it for the success of my band.”

With that being said, stepmom is on Facebook and Instagram. Stay tuned for more announcements. Upcoming shows are listed below!
